About this event
Bash Street Theatre will be performing their new, outdoor family show The Cameraman in St Austell town centre on Saturday, 18th June as part of the St Austell Cultural Celebration and Community Championship supported by the Tresorys Kernow project.
Set around the seedy French Cafe du Pont, The Cameraman is a playful homage to the film-noir genre. There’s a voice-over narration and live musical accompaniment, including piano, accordion and some funky steel guitar.
There are songs, excitement and silent comedy as the storyline follows the fortunes of an inept cameraman who inadvertently becomes involved in the theft of the World’s Largest Diamond.
The story is narrated by a jaded detective looking back on his early career as a young crime-fighter in the ‘Roaring 20s’ – the days of fake news, a world pandemic and global warming.
With influences as diverse as Tintin, Roger Rabbit, Humphrey Bogart and Buster Keaton, The Cameraman offers a comic view on the classic cinema detective movies with a touch of nostalgia for our analogue past.
It’s an hour-long show, with a cast of four, it is suitable for all ages and it’s free of charge!
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Community Renewal Fund in Cornwall.
