Learn about the link between Cornish tin and the colour red on cloth

The Tin Red Line is an exciting project based in Lostwithiel, southeast Cornwall, linking industry, landscape and textiles through the metal tin and the colour red. Join us in celebrating the mining industry of Cornwall and its global trade links, turning silks red through the alchemy of natural dyeing.

There are 2 workshops available on Saturday 14th May, bookable via the Lancaster & Cornish website. Based in and around Lostwithiel, choose from morning or afternoon. Join Sian Cornish of Lancaster & Cornish, and Marion Parish as we start the workshops with a short guided walk in Lostwithiel Town, meeting at Lostwithiel Museum with guide John Pegg, and walking towards the river and medieval bridge. John will tell us about the tin history of Lostwithiel before we head to a natural dyeing colour workshop taking place in the stretch tents by the river.

Together we will turn silk red using ancient recipes, forming part of a beautiful display to be shown around the town in June – and you will also get to take a piece of silk home with you.

Please choose either a morning or afternoon session.

Suitable for children of 12 and over, under 16’s must be supervised by an accompanying adult.

We will start the workshops (morning and afternoon sessions) with a short guided walk in Lostwithiel Town, meeting at Lostwithiel Museum and walking towards the river and medieval bridge. Heading then to a natural dyeing colour workshop at Lostwithiel Community Centre (Oasis Rooms), connecting colour and cloth, celebrating the mining industry of Cornwall and its global trade links, turning silks red through the alchemy of natural dyes.
