I paint expressive abstract paintings, using acrylics, oils and mixed media.
The common starting point for my work is the close observation of my local landscape, taking the time to really see the patterns in nature, the colour of the ocean or a tiny bright flower bursting from a thick deep green hedgerow. I document theses colours, shapes and thoughts in sketchbooks and on paper and then process my ideas back in the studio. I may have a loose idea for a collection but I soon find myself lost in the creative process itself and my work can then take more of an intuitive approach, responding to the last creative move as I go along.
My recent work involves scaling up details that I love from my smaller studies into larger abstract pieces. Working large gives me the freedom to explore different fluid painting techniques. I build up many layers, working on multiple pieces at a time and in this way, I can be freer with my mark making and paint application.
Come and see me painting in my studio, browse my sketchbooks and work in progress. There will be original paintings in different sizes for sale from £85. The studio is located a five minute drive from the beautiful National Trust Godolphin House, a place I visit regularly for inspiration.
