Hall for Cornwall Green Room Café (Back Quay Entrance)
Join us for an evening blending contemporary design and heritage at Hall for Cornwall.
A Work of Art for Hall for Cornwall
Alan Kitching has created a large scale triptych for the theatre showcasing the dizzying breadth of our building’s performance history and we invite you to hear about the why, how and with what.
In his signature bold, typographic style, over 200 performances are represented from 1912 – 2018, each hand-set, coloured and printed using wooden type from Alan’s studio. The panels measure 1.5 x 1.5m and can be read as a chronological timeline left to right across our Green Room Café.
The three works also invite the viewer in for a closer, more intimate look at the building’s history. We challenge any fan of the theatre NOT to be able to pick out a performance that they remember fondly!
Alan Kitching and the panel will discuss highlights from his career which spans more than six decades.
This is an evening for design-lovers, typography buffs and a chance to hear more about creating the Performance Timeline for our theatre.
In addition to the talk, we are lucky enough to have a sneak preview of the forthcoming documentary made to celebrate Alan’s 80th year, showcasing our Performance Timeline being made during Winter 2020 / Spring 2021.
The Panel
Alan’s clients include the The Guardian, BBC, English Heritage, Transport for London, Royal Mail, National Theatre, Royal College of Art, Kew Gardens, Saatchi & Saatchi, Tate, Clarks and D&AD among a great many others.
