About this event
Karen, 17, on her parents: loving and lovable; secret devotees of University Challenge. Oh, and they’re cops.
Karen’s parents, on Karen: fearless cycling champion; a sweet-natured young lady.
Karen’s parents are worried. She won’t come out of her bedroom. Which is odd, given she’s such a go-getter. Odder still is what she’s doing in there…
A poignant rites-of-passage story from acclaimed writer Jon Welch.
Reviews from performances of ‘Bike’ at the Edinburgh Fringe:
“Beautifully realised by a terrific cast, it’s a piece of perfection from writer, Jon Welch.”
“A stunning piece. Draws the audience in with a light but sure touch, then turns on a sixpence to move through the darkest of territory before an astonishing and beautiful coup de theatre.”
Bodkin Theatre unpick stories – old and new – and thread our own narratives through the tales we tell.
Our most recent production was E.M.Forster’s A Room with a View at the Minack theatre, which was described in the review as: “brilliantly witty, irreverent, slightly naughty, cleverly mischievous and immensely enjoyable.”
Accessibility
Details
The Burrell Theatre has full disabled access and facilities. We generally advise using our ground floor seating for those who prefer fewer steps, or there is step free seating available on the balcony level. Depending on the auditorium layout for each event, we can usually also ensure steps-free access on the ground floor. Please get in touch to check seating layouts for specific performances. The bar and balcony seats are located on the first floor and can be accessed by our lift. Please ask a member of staff on arrival and they will be happy to provide access for you. We also have a free accessible parking space nearer to the theatre than the main car park, but advance booking is essential. There is an induction loop system for hard of hearing. If this facility is required, please inform us when you book your ticket. We are committed to ensuring that our events are accessible to all those who wish to enjoy them. Occasionally we are limited by factors such as staging layouts or technical set-up of the event, but we will always work with your needs as far as we can. If you have any questions or requirements not covered on this page, please get in touch by email, by submitting a support request while booking or by speaking to a member of our front of house team when you arrive.
