About this event
Jake has been to Bodmin folk club on a few occasions, when we have enjoyed the quality of his unaccompanied singing of our traditional songs. We are very pleased to book him as a solo performer.
Jake is a singer who grew up in the English Midlands, on the border of Staffordshire and Derbyshire. His childhood introduction to music came primarily from his parents’ rock and roll collection, alongside witnessing ancient local traditions, like the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance. As a teenager, he began listening to bands such as Jethro Tull, and sang in rock and funk bands himself, before developing an interest in English folk song, which was sparked by leading folk revivalists. They created in him the awareness and skill of ‘carrying a story with only the use of your voice’
Jake is actively involved in running local sessions, and can often be found singing unaccompanied traditional songs in pubs around Plymouth. He runs the monthly session at The Dolphin, hosting it in an informal and inclusive style.
He has been posting a Song a Week on Youtube for the past year or so; https://youtube.com/@saxonjaxon?si=OUSngsXYOXbjgoxb
