About this event
If you’re feeling creative and are interested in recycling and helping the environment, you’ll love the crafty Make Do and Mend themed activities inspired by wartime shortages, including making jewellery and your own biodegradable seedling pot from recycled paper.
On the theme of Fit to Fight, which is all about military medicine and hygiene, join our friendly team to find out some of the ways that soldiers have kept clean and healthy in wartime throughout history. Learn about the work of nurses and medics during the First World War with our military medicine historian and find out how the care of the wounded was greatly improved. You can even have a realistic-looking war wound created with special-effects make-up! There will also be a new exhibition about the history of Dentistry in the Army.
If you’re fascinated by military history, you will be able to get up close to some curious objects from the museum stores, which have been specially chosen by Fran, the museum’s Trainee Curator, who will be giving short, family-friendly talks. You can also meet re-enactors from local Second World War re-enactment group ‘The D-Day Dodgers’ in their living history display on 16 April!
There are different activities programmed Tuesday – Thursday from 12 – 21 April. Check the museum’s website for what’s on each day. Activities are all included in the museum’s normal admission charge of £7 for an adult annual pass and £3 for a child, which can be used as many times as you like for 12 months. For full information about all the events, opening hours and access, visit the museum’s website www.bodminkeep.org
