About this event
Artist, Writer, Photographer and award-winning Illustrator Catherine Hyde trained in Fine Art Painting at The Central School of Art in London and is renowned for her symbolic atmospheric paintings and her poetic books.
She was the winner of the Holyer an Gof Award for Poetry for The Bee and The Sun (Zephyr) and The English Association Award for the best-illustrated book for The Princess’ Blankets by Carol Ann Duffy (Templar), all of her children’s picture books have been nominated for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Award for Illustration.
For this year’s Open Studios, she invites you to her ‘Studio in the Sky’ at the top of her Victorian home in Helston. It is well worth the several flights of stairs to reach the calm beamed attic space with its views over the landscape to Godolphin Hill to see where she paints and writes her books.
‘Studios and workshops are very personal spaces and I believe that everything that inspires me: art books, poetry books, fairy tales, shells, stones, fossils, and treasures should be with me here in this room where they feel like old friends. When you visit you are welcome to browse the space, drink tea or wine, eat homemade cake, and take in the atmosphere whilst watching a painting in progress on the easel.
On the walls and around the studio there will be lots of framed and unframed originals, my photographs (a new passion), signed books, prints, and also cards to view or buy.
