About this event
Beating the Bounds is a traditional custom where, once a year, communities walked the boundary of their parish and created a shared mental map of home.
Each walk will be led by poet and historian Mark Camp and will vary in length and difficulty.
For the fourth walk we’re heading to Bowithick. Starting at Bowithick clapper bridge and ford, we will walk along the farm track past the manganese mines. We will then walk along the base of Buttern Hill past a rare adit, medieval mine workings and then up onto Leskernick Hill and the stone age houses there. We’ll then cross back onto Buttern Hill and climb to the neolithic cemetery and box tomb before walking down next to the 17th Century tin mine and to the cars. We’ll then take a short drive to the Rising Sun for a debrief. 3.7 Miles uphill and on the moor so come prepared for wet and boggy conditions!
We encourage participants to come with cameras to document the trip, but ask you to leave dogs at home. You are welcome to sign up for both walks or just one. If you’d like any further information please email [email protected]
This project is part of the Hello Stranger programme led by Wildworks and is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
