About this event
Sammy is a self taught artist who rediscovered her love for drawing during a period of recovery, following a life threatening incident. Whilst bed ridden and immobile, drawing was her only escape and with her passion for art reignited she has made this her full time occupation for a number of years.
Over time, her practice has developed from a focus on minimalist abstract works to illustrative in style, with a focus on pattern and detail. Her pieces have a delicate and whimsical feel, with illustrations created from mixed media, including pencil, ink and fine line pen. Drawing inspiration from nature and all its wonders, you will no doubt see this incorporated in to her other-worldly imaginative compositions.
She has had a life-long love of art and children’s book illustration, inspired by artists across genres, and as a former ballerina, the wider creative arts also inform her work.
As one of the duo Wavey n Snotts, Sammy self published her first children’s book Cloud Cuckoo Land, touring bookshops and schools across Wales and the South West. It was featured as Waterstones ‘Book of the month’ and the pair took part in Guernsey Literary Festival, among other events during this time.
Eden Chapel is her brand new permanent studio base and will eventually become a place of workshops and community events.
