About this event
Described as delivering “energetic and charming performances”, the Morris-Begg Duo of Ross Morris and Ines Mayhew-Begg began working together in 2019 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Ross is considered as “one of the most exciting of the new generation of British classical guitarists” and has been described as playing with “outstanding technique and subtle nuance.” Ines is a Scottish soprano, with a Master in Vocal Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In 2022, she made her German debut as Adele in Die Fledermaus and in the summer of 2023 she toured with Opera Bohemia as Kate in Madame Butterfly.
From Renaissance lute music to flamenco-inspired songs from Spain, the concert will feature a wide range of styles and periods and will include some of their own arrangements, bringing a fresh approach to some of the most loved repertoire for the voice. The duo has already brought their shared enjoyment of the intimate and expressive nature of voice and guitar to a wide variety of audiences such as ‘Live Music Now Scotland Artists’ and ‘International Guitar Foundation Young Artists’, including performances at such prestigious venues as the National Gallery of Scotland, the National Museum of Scotland, St Giles Cathedral, Bristol Cathedral and London’s Kings Place.
The programme will include the music of John Dowland (1562-1626), Isaac Albeniz (1860-1909), Enrique Granados (1867-1916), Augustine Barrios (1885-1944), Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999), James MacMillan (1959-), Stephen Goss (1964-) and Marco Ramelli (1984-).
Critics Review
“Ines and Ross had a great connection together as a duo and won the audience over with their energetic and charming performance. They presented a wonderfully varied programme which was full of different characters and stories, with beautiful renaissance lute music and new lieder transcriptions for guitar set alongside passionate and comedic Spanish folk songs.”
