About this event
Tune into this new colourful, quirky and interactive radio show where listeners can discover their own hidden poetic depths (and some not so deep!) whilst helping the Poetry Postie create poetic content to help cheer up communities during this Covid-19 crisis.
Such deliveries will include instant Sing-o-grams; love songs through the letterbox with Mr Love a Dove, High as the Skaiku poems on kites – inspired by the haikus of Japanese poetry correspondent Hiroshi Taniuchi. The show will also feature regular guest Gray, the bus driving poet and members of the public will be inspired to contribute their own poem for Firewords – a celebratory, remote spectacle that will see poems being sent to the stars in rocket fireworks at the end of the series.
The show aims to connect people during this difficult time – especially those who are feeling isolated or anxious about what the future may hold. It explores the notion of communication – communicating with oneself (something poetry helps one to do) with those close to you and those further away and tries to discover a new way to connect and communicate.
The Poetry Postie has delivered poetic inspiration to the Nation and beyond – including to the United Nations – and connects communities both locally and globally. Her Poetry Postie – Communities Communicating scheme has seen cultural exchanges take place as far afield as Cuba and Japan and she has been described as “Profoundly original – one of Britain’s richest inventions ” (Lars Gustafsson, nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature) due to her innovative approach to presenting high quality poetry to wide and diverse audiences. Recent projects have included the CreativiTEA Carriage with GWR and Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, which won a National ACoRP award; The Sweetshop of Words, the Poetree and Poetry Bingo.
