About this event

Clare is an abstract artist working in mixed media/textiles in 2D and 3D producing varied colourful and intricate works inspired by her Cornish home.

Clare’s work ranges from paintings on canvas or board in acrylic and oil/cold wax, to collages in paper and pieced and stitched fabric, and felt vessels. Her inspiration comes from her deep connection with her birthplace of Cornwall – the coast, rock formations, the woods near her home near the Helford River, and the mining and fishing heritage. She loves natural forms, trees, rocks, pebbles and seaweed but also manmade elements like old boats, buildings, old doors, rusty machinery, fishing gear. Patterns, textures and interesting shapes all appear in abstract form. She takes photographs every day of things that catch her eye and these inform her work which she executes intuitively and with freedom of expression.

There will be framed and unframed works and felt vessels to see at the studio, alongside paintings and glass by Sarah Trewhella and ceramics/mixed media by Sally Ould, fellow Falmouth graduates.

Mudgeon Vean Studio is situated on an 18C farm in the heart of the country, near the beautiful Helford River and National Trust walk to Tremayne Quay – a stone’s throw from Gear Farm Pasty Co.

Accessibility Mudgeon Vean Studio is situated down a farm lane. As you enter the concreted farm yard the studio is immediately to your right. Parking for several cars outside the studio. Studio entrance is level with the yard, with slight slope to the door. Door width is 82.5cm wide. Toilet facilities have a small step near the door area, level into porch, WC very small area. Not suitable for wheelchair users.

Directions Take A3083 from Helston to roundabout. Turn left onto the B3293 to Mawgan roundabout. Second left through MAWGAN to ST. MARTIN. Turn left at ST MARTINS GREEN & bus hut to next crossroads. Turn Left. Mudgeon Vean is second on the right down farm lane.
