About this event
I am very fortunate to live on the ancient pilgrim route of the St Michaels Way. This Bronze Age footpath joins Lelant and St Michael’s Mount and is the only European cultural footpath in the UK. It makes up part of the longer pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
My studio is set in my large garden with beautiful views of Trencrom Hill, an Iron Age hill fort from which there are wonderful views to be had of both the North and South Coasts. At the bottom of the garden, adjacent to the road is the National Trust owned Bowl Rock. This is a giant granite outcrop which legend tells was used by giants playing on the hill.
It is this setting, the beauty, history and legend which influences my wide variety of art. I am a fine art printmaker, mixed media and collage artist and I am currently fascinated with the use of oil paints mixed together with cold wax medium. I have been producing both representational and abstract work using this method.
I also create my own inks and pigments using foraged materials and frequently use these in my work too.
I am a member of the St Ives Arts Club and the Artist in Residence at St Ia Parish Church in St Ives.
I spend lots of time in West Penwith, an area of outstanding natural beauty, walking my whippet dog Dillon and sketching with friends. I am ceaselessly amazed by the changing light and colours in this part of Cornwall as well as the wonderful wildlife which often ends up appearing in my work.
My garden is another major influence.
I encourage you to come and visit and spend time looking around the garden, relaxing in one of the many seating areas as well as looking at all the art on offer in our Bowl Rock collective. Paintings, pottery, photography and jewellery – something for everyone, whatever your budget!
We will be offering refreshments and friendship to everyone who visits us.
