About this event
For more than a century, Penzance has been an inspiring heaven for artists. It was here that Alexander Stanhope Forbes established the Newlyn School of Painting in 1899. Famous artists connected with the Newlyn School included Walter Langley and Lamorna Birch.
To celebrate Penzance as one of the most vibrant and innovative artistic towns in the country, Penzance Festival of Art will bring together the town’s plethora of artists, galleries and museums for a celebration of the very best of Penwith art, giving visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the creativity and beauty of this historic coastal town.
The festival will involve more than 1,000 local artists in a programme packed with creative art exhibitions, workshops, pop up galleries, talks and lectures and its famous Art Trail.
Many of the town’s museums, galleries and art communities are taking part including the EXCHANGE, Penlee House, Newlyn Art Gallery, Penzance Studios, Morrab Library, The Newlyn School of Art, Newlyn Society of Artists, Newlyn Filmhouse, Space for you and the Arts Society of West Cornwall.
More details of the festival events and activities please refer to the website calendar.
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Community Renewal Fund in Cornwall.
