About the Artist
Sam Akroyd. I am a painter. Most of my work is centred on portraiture… I have found this to be a diverse and complex subject matter.
My work includes not only faces and people but also urban portraiture, including the idea of ‘place’. I am interested in the relationship between people and place and the meaning created by our combined perception and experience of where we are. Our unique viewpoints define our understanding of any ‘place’ but through communicating those experiences we create something else, something shared.
I have been exploring this theme in my work for many years.
