About this event
“Killing the Angel in the House … Had I not killed her she would have killed me.”
Virginia Woolf: Killing the Angel is a one-woman play with music that weaves the life of Virginia Woolf, as expressed in her own words, with music and songs by British female composers who were her contemporaries.
Through Woolf’s writing, this show reveals her troubled childhood, her views on literature, the Bloomsbury group and the challenges women face as artists and offers a new perspective on the artistic, social and creative networks of professional women in the early twentieth century.
“I’m buzzing after seeing ‘Virginia Woolf: Killing the Angel’. The script is entirely extracted from Woolf’s novels, essays & life writing, with insight into Woolf’s ground-breaking feminist work in the context of her patriarchal upbringing. Don’t miss this!!!” Lana Bode Woolf & Music
This is the latest collaboration between professional actor and classical singer, Lucy Stevens and pianist Elizabeth Marcus, a Fellow and Professor of Harpsichord at Guildhall School of Music, following their previous acclaimed plays about women in music.
“a most extraordinary evening … challenging, enlightening, entertaining, chilling, informative, alluring, beautiful, funny and deeply inspiring … like floating on top of a wave – joyous one moment and dashed onto the pebbles the next. THANK YOU!” Audience member
