About this event
Please note this event has been postponed.
One of the UK’s most innovative, exciting and original trumpeters, Byron Wallen draws inspiration from Blues, African rhythms and the music of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Thelonious Monk.
Byron will be touring his new album ‘Portrait’, featuring his dazzling Four Corners band, led by himself on trumpet and conches, Paul Michael on bass, Rod Youngs on drums and Mike De Souza on guitar.
A varied career has seen him tour and record with other exciting musicians including George Benson, Chaka Khan, Hugh Masekela, Courtney Pine and in 2019, an outstanding gig at Calstock Arts with Jean Toussaint.
“Byron Wallen sometimes suggests an absorbing fusion of late period Miles Davis and the spiky euphoria of Don Cherry. Just as frequently he will seem closer to Asian or North African music, or reveal an informed appreciation of some of the earliest trumpet pioneers in jazz.” The Guardian
Tickets: £14 in advance, £15 on the door, £1 reduction for Friends of Calstock Arts, Under 21s and students with ID £8
