About this event
Better known as a potter, Colin Caffell’s career as a sculptor has been underpinned by a lifelong fascination by all aspects of the feminine: both physical and metaphysical; inner and outer – nurturing, vulnerable, sensual and erotic; the mythological and anthropomorphic. Even his memorial to Cornish hard rock miners at Geevor Mine – intrinsically masculine – is about men who make their living working deep within the body of Mother Earth. Whatever the theme, each piece tells a story – often with a collective or archetypal narrative. All the works in this exhibition, in bronze or ceramic, have been created over a period of nearly 40 years and map much of Caffell’s creative journey.
Colin gained most of his skills studying Ceramics and Three-Dimensional Design at Camberwell School of Art in the early 70’s and began making sculpture in the mid 80’s, initially as a response to personal trauma. He has also developed a love for writing since then.
