About this event
Sue Searle Photography Exhibition
I am exhibiting some of my cyanotypes and digital photography at Lamorna Pottery during April 2022. Lamorna Pottery is open Wednesdays to Sundays 11.00-5.00 serving coffee, lunches, tea and cakes. My photos are in the back of the shop in the Pottery Experience rooms.
The cyanotype process is a form of camera-less photography invented in the 1840s before the invention of the camera. It was used by Anna Atkins in the 19th century to make prints to illustrate botanical books. The chemicals are painted on the paper, objects are placed on top and the paper is exposed to the sun. After exposure, the paper is washed thoroughly and the typical blue and white photogram is produced. As a photographer, I have found this a fascinating process, a bit like slow photography! I use leaves and flowers from my garden, sometimes adding turmeric, lemon juice or soap suds to add colour and texture.
Photographing with a digital camera is something I do most days! I like to photograph landscapes, patterns and abstracts, flowers, close-ups and lots more. I find walking with a camera really makes me notice and enjoy the environment. I am a member of the Royal Photographic Society and Penwith Photographic Group.
