About this event
The natural world has always held a fascination for me. Yet I have no wish to emulate nature. Making connections with the animal world is important and I am interested in developing a symbolic visual language which recognises the primal. My work is an attempt to recall a time when man did not make a distinction between himself and the animals.
The medium of assemblage, the bringing together of hitherto unrelated objects, is an important part of my output. My box constructions reference the art of Joseph Cornell,a key figure in the genre of art and the box. Other influences are wide-ranging: Lucas Cranach, Caspar David Friedrich, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Alan Davie and the culture of the Inuit, all arguably in the Northern Romantic Tradition.
I am represented by Redwing Gallery, 8 Holland Street and Rowley Gallery, London.
There is a plant-based café on site serving locally handmade savouries, sweets, locally roasted Cuban coffees and a wide range of hot and cold drinks, including local apple juice.
