About this event
Wild About Calstock is an intergenerational nature-based arts project by The Photobook Project, connecting older and younger people to each other and the Tamar Valley. The exhibition features the participants’ photographs taken throughout the project, and an accompanying collection of new photobooks. The project engaged school children at Calstock & Stoke Climsland Primary Schools and Sensory Trust’s local dementia-friendly Walk & Laugh Group. Across three guided nature walks in Calstock Parish, participants have observed, documented and shared knowledge whilst taking part in workshops with local experts, such as foraging with ‘Incredible Edible’. With a focus on foraging, winter wetlands. and hidden wildlife, Wild About Calstock connected people across the generations and nurtured a deeper appreciation of their local environment and wildlife. The project also raised awareness of Calstock Parish Council’s Climate Change Action Plan and the environmental challenges and opportunities they are seeking to address.
Wild About Calstock was commissioned by Calstock Parish Council’s Working Group for Nature Recovery as part of their Environment and Climate Strategic Plan. The project has been supported by FEAST, Arts Council England, Cornwall Council, Calstock Parish Council, Sensory Trust, The Box, Calstock Arts and The Tamara Landscape Partnership (a delivery branch of The Tamar Valley National Landscape).
